was talking with some friends last night, and some1 came up with the news that it seems that the confederation has slightly increased their fines for road codes infringements, i.e. the equivalent of 35k€ or 1 month in jail for speed excess of +40kmh.

is anybody aware of this, or is this merely a legend? I skim read the swiss code but I was unable to find any reference

Hi Giovanni,

I don't think the penalties are that high, though they're quick enough to give you one. And it may still hurt....
Over 20Km too fast : count with €400 in town (€250 outside and €180 on motorways) plus handing in your license for a month.
From there on things get hefty, for instance 25% of your net income (min. €800) plus 3 days jail when doing more than 35Km too fast in town.

More details here (in German though) (for easy calculation take 1€ for 1.50 CHF)

Lamps &

blinkende Grüsse

I'm sorry, but catboot and I found some discussions in the web that the link you've posted is a fake.
The penalties are higher then last year - but there is no automatism to go to jail, this penalty is for very high excesses... Thats what I found in some web sites.
Are there any official informations of the swiss gouvernment about this subject?

@ all

to the "jail" discussion: this depends also on your citizenship. As a foreigner,
not living in CH, it's not possible to bring you in jail because of speed limit only.

But what is fact, is, that the speed controls on all roads, in town, outside town,
and high-ways increased in the last 2-3 years extremly.
You never can feel save, and you have to fear a radar control unit behind every
tree, car or bridge.

The Kanton of Zürich anounced a couple of weeks ago, that they will double
the check points upto end of the year.

So there's only one way to enjoye the motor-cycle riding in switzerland:
> drive according the speed limit or with max. + 15km/h on the display.

I have to admit that this piece of "research" was not very reliable. I should not have copied it at all.

But..., they're still quick handing out tickets. Got one today: my front tyre only had 1.1 instead of the required 1.6 mm of profile.
A "friendly" swiss police officer pointed this out to me and spoiled my day with a CHF 100.- fine.
Nice start to the season.... Sh*t !!

1.1 mm -> 100 CHF?
A fine fine for such a fine thread, Gé;D

back to the original reason of the post, I understand I only risk 5k CHF maximum (if I don't kill anybody):smokin: given the fact that i save around 8€ for each fuel refill I make in Switz, I get a return every 400 refills I make without being caught:rotate:

But how about the august rally, Gé?:lickout:

how many years would that take then? :))

The August rally is being discussed here (in case you have any problems with the german, just ask in english ;) )
Only the dates have been fixed, nothing else yet. Location and accomodation will be published later.
